Charles Schwertner, a Republican member of the Texas State Senate representing the 5th district since 2013, addressed recent global events and commemorated a historical milestone in a series of posts on his Twitter account.
On December 14, 2025, Schwertner commented on several violent incidents around the world. He wrote, “Over the past 24 hours, we have witnessed a horrific attack at Bondi Beach targeting the Jewish community, the killing of three Americans in Syria, the arrests of individuals plotting an attack on a German Christmas market, and other attacks. These acts share a common link: they” (December 14, 2025).
Later that day, Schwertner called for support for victims of one of these attacks. He stated, “Please join me in praying for Rabbi Yossi and Manya Lazaroff’s son, Rabbi Leibel Lazaroff, who was shot, and all those who were killed and injured in the terrorist attack on the Jewish community. The following day marked an anniversary significant to American history. On December 15, 2025, Schwertner noted this occasion by posting: “On this day in 1791, the Bill of Rights was ratified, becoming the first Ten Amendments to the U.S. Constitution. To address concerns that the original Constitution did not do enough to safeguard freedom, these amendments were added to protect our individual rights – like freedom https://t.co/WTxhszMKbL” (December 15, 2025).
Schwertner has served as state senator since replacing Steve Ogden in 2013.
