Texas A&M sophomores Gabby Filzen and Nathan Stone advanced to the finals in their respective events at the NCAA Zone D Diving Championships on March 10, but did not secure spots at the national meet. The competition took place at the Rec Center Natatorium in Bryan-College Station.
The event is significant as it serves as a qualifying stage for divers aiming to compete at the NCAA Championships. Only top finishers from each event earn berths to advance.
Filzen, who is from Schwenksville, Pennsylvania, achieved her season best with a score of 299.95 in the women’s three-meter dive preliminaries. She finished with a total score of 576.55 over twelve dives, placing fourteenth overall. Only the top ten competitors in this event qualified for the NCAA Championships.
Stone, from Southlake, Texas, also reached his season best by scoring 299.85 in the men’s one-meter dive preliminaries and then recording a final round score of 331.40. His combined total was 631.25 points, earning him eleventh place; however, only the top seven finishers moved on to nationals.
Other Texas A&M athletes competing included Bridget Foster, Joslyn Oakley, and Julie Moons, who placed twenty-second, twenty-third, and twenty-fourth respectively in the women’s three-meter dive.
