Texas A&M announced on Mar. 11 that four of its divers—Gabby Filzen, Jaxon Bowshire, Emilio Trevino, and Matthew Aigner—secured spots at the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships after their performances in the platform dive at the NCAA Zone D Championships. The event took place Wednesday at the Student Recreation Natatorium.
The advancement of these athletes is significant as it highlights Texas A&M’s continued presence at national collegiate competitions. Qualifying for the NCAA Championships is a major achievement for collegiate divers and reflects their strong performances throughout the season.
Filzen, a sophomore from Schwenksville, Pennsylvania, earned her first career trip to the NCAA Championships by placing sixth with a total score of 530.30 points over ten dives. She finished her final five dives with a score of 281.30. Bowshire, also a sophomore and last year’s NCAA runner-up in platform diving, finished second in the men’s platform with a twelve-dive score of 808.20 points. He closed out his performance with four consecutive dives scoring over seventy points each, including an impressive 83.25 on his third dive in the final round.
Trevino placed third in the men’s platform with a score of 772.20 and will compete in two events at this year’s NCAA meet after qualifying earlier in the week for the three-meter dive. Senior Matthew Aigner from Katy, Texas, earned his first trip to nationals by finishing eighth with 679.40 points.
Other Texas A&M competitors included junior Chloe McKnight, who narrowly missed qualification by finishing twelfth in women’s platform with a score of 476.40, and sophomore Charles Reuter, who placed fourteenth among men with 586.15 points.
With these results, Texas A&M continues to demonstrate depth and competitiveness within its diving program as it prepares for representation at the upcoming national championships.
