Texas A&M’s Sydney Lessentine delivered her first career Southeastern Conference shutout as the No. 11 Aggies defeated No. 14 Mississippi State, 4-0, on April 18 at Davis Diamond.
The win secured a series victory for Texas A&M, which limited Mississippi State to just three hits and a .130 batting average. Lessentine held the Bulldogs hitless with runners on base and recorded two strikeouts in her complete-game effort.
Kennedy Powell, Tallen Edwards, Micaela Wark, and Maddie Sauni each drove in a run for the Aggies. Hailey Golden, Ariel Kowalewski, Kelsey Mathis, and KK Dement scored runs. The Aggie defense turned two double plays early to stop potential rallies by Mississippi State.
Texas A&M capitalized on six free passes in the second inning—including three walks and two hit batters—to score twice before play was halted for a rain delay with one out and the bases loaded. After play resumed, Edwards drew another walk to extend the lead to 3-0. Wark added an insurance run in the sixth inning with a sacrifice fly.
The game marked several milestones for Texas A&M: it was their first SEC home shutout since 2024 against Ole Miss; pitchers recorded back-to-back complete games in an SEC series for the first time since that year; and head coach Trisha Ford improved her record against Mississippi State to seven wins and one loss. The Aggies have now won all three SEC home series this season and have claimed victory in six straight conference games.
The teams are scheduled to meet again Sunday at Davis Diamond.
