Michael McCaul, U.S. Representative and co-chair of the Friends of Australia Caucus, recently shared a series of posts on his social media account highlighting developments in U.S.-Australia relations, the AUKUS security pact, and the impact of a potential government shutdown in Texas.
On October 20, 2025, McCaul wrote, “As co-chair of the Friends of Australia Caucus and author of the AUKUS legislation, I was also extremely pleased to see @POTUS’ support for accelerating AUKUS implementation. I look forward to seeing how the administration strengthens this 50-year security pact, which serves as a”. The AUKUS agreement is a trilateral security partnership between Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States, established to enhance defense cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region.
In another post from the same day, McCaul commented on a recent diplomatic meeting, stating, “Today’s meeting between President Trump and Prime Minister Albanese proved the U.S.-Australia alliance is as strong as ever. The timely new mineral deal will strengthen both of our economies and bolster U.S. national security by reducing our reliance on the CCP, just as it works”. The reference to a new mineral deal underscores ongoing efforts to diversify supply chains and reduce dependence on China for critical resources.
On October 21, 2025, McCaul addressed the economic impact of a government shutdown in Texas, writing, “In Texas alone, Democrats’ shutdown is projected to cost $6.3 billion per month, wipe out 4,100 jobs, and force up to 218,000 federal workers to serve without pay. Senate Democrats know they could end this pain TODAY, but they choose to cater to the most radical parts of their”.
Michael McCaul has a long tenure in Congress, having secured reelection in multiple cycles. In 2024, he defeated Theresa Boisseau with 63.6% of the vote. Previous victories include wins over Linda Nuno in 2022 (63.3%), Mike Siegel in 2020 (52.5%) and 2018 (51.1%), Tawana Walter-Cadien in 2016 (57.3%) and 2014 (62.2%).
