The Texas A&M softball team lost both games of a doubleheader to Oklahoma on May 2 at Davis Diamond, with final scores of 4-3 and 6-4. The Aggies, ranked No. 12, fell short in late rallies during both contests against the top-ranked Sooners.
The losses mean Texas A&M finishes the regular season with a record of 36-16 overall and a conference mark of 16-8 in the Southeastern Conference (SEC), tying for fourth place in the league standings. This marks the third consecutive season that Texas A&M has finished in the top four of SEC play, matching its most conference wins since joining the league in 2013.
Tallen Edwards led the Aggie offense by going four-for-seven across both games, including hitting a home run and a double. Kennedy Powell contributed multiple hits and hit her own solo homer, while Paislie Allen added a three-run home run in Game Two. Kelsey Mathis also recorded multiple hits during Saturday’s action.
In Game One, after three scoreless innings from both teams, Oklahoma took advantage with three runs in the fourth inning through two hits and three walks. The Aggies responded with home runs from Powell and Edwards to tie it up before Oklahoma regained the lead on an RBI triple in the sixth inning.
Game Two saw Oklahoma take an early lead with back-to-back home runs before extending their advantage later on fielding errors and another solo shot. The Aggies mounted one last rally in their final at-bat as Mathis drove in a run followed by Allen’s three-run homer but ultimately came up short.
Texas A&M will enter postseason play as the No. 6 seed for next week’s SEC Tournament held in Lexington, Kentucky. They are scheduled to play Wednesday morning against either Missouri or Auburn.
