U.S. Congressman Michael McCaul, who chairs the Task Force on Enhancing Security for Special Events in the United States, visited Audi Field in Washington today. The site is set to host part of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. McCaul’s visit included discussions with FIFA staff and White House officials about enhancing public safety at upcoming events.

“As our nation prepares to host millions of international visitors for major events, we must create safe experiences that showcase the United States’ leadership and commitment to excellence,” said McCaul. He emphasized the importance of addressing potential threats such as unauthorized drone use and lone wolf attacks.

The Committee on Homeland Security has announced members of this bipartisan task force, which McCaul chairs. The members include Rep. Carlos Gimenez (R-Fla.), Rep. Dale Strong (R-Ala.), Rep. Eli Crane (R-Ariz.), Ranking Member Nellie Pou (D-N.J.), Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.), and Rep. LaMonica McIver (D-N.J.). Representatives Gimenez and Pou accompanied McCaul during his visit to Audi Field.

Rep. Gimenez highlighted the necessity of strong coordination among federal, state, and local partners for securing large-scale events like FIFA 2026 and the 2028 Olympics: “Ensuring a safe and successful execution will require strong coordination among federal, state, and local partners so that every traveler and every community can enjoy these celebrations safely and confidently.”

Rep. Strong noted his experience as a first responder in emphasizing the need for security measures at mass-gathering events: “We must ensure every measure is taken to protect the safety of our citizens and guests while preserving the spirit of these global celebrations.”

Rep. Crane expressed gratitude for being part of this initiative: “By proactively establishing this critical task force, we will work closely with the administration to solidify operational readiness.”

The task force was established earlier this year to oversee security preparations for major international events such as the 2028 Summer Olympics, 2026 FIFA World Cup, 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, 2025 Ryder Cup, and America’s 250th anniversary in 2026.

Congressman McCaul previously served as chief of counter terrorism in Texas’ U.S. attorney’s office and led investigations into significant terrorist incidents during his tenure as chairman of the Homeland Security Committee.
