Texas A&M defeated LSU, 5-2, on April 19 to complete a series sweep at Alex Box Stadium. This marks the Aggies’ first sweep over the Tigers since joining the Southeastern Conference.
The win is significant as it is also Texas A&M’s first three-game sweep at LSU’s home stadium since Tom Chandler’s team accomplished the feat in 1978. The Aggies now hold a record of 31-7 overall and 12-5 in conference play, while LSU falls to 23-18 and 6-12 in SEC games.
Weston Moss started for Texas A&M and pitched four and one-third scoreless innings, allowing only three hits with five strikeouts. Gavin Lyons earned his seventh win of the season by pitching two and two-thirds hitless innings in relief. Offensively, Caden Sorrell began the scoring with a solo home run in the first inning. Bear Harrison added a sacrifice fly in the second inning, while Chris Hacopian extended the lead with a two-run homer in the third. Gavin Grahovac contributed an RBI single during a fifth-inning rally.
LSU scored twice in the eighth inning but could not close the gap. Clayton Freshcorn closed out for Texas A&M, allowing two runs—one earned—and matching his season-high with four strikeouts over two innings.
Several individual streaks continued during this game: Sorrell extended his on-base streak to 32 games; Grahovac stretched his hitting streak to 13 games; Duer reached base for his twenty-first consecutive game; both Grahovac and Sorrell have reached base safely in all seventeen conference games played so far this season.
With Sunday’s result marking their sixty-ninth all-time meeting, Texas A&M now leads its series against LSU at thirty-seven wins to thirty-one losses with one tie. The Aggies return home next to face UTSA on Tuesday at Olsen Field.
