The Texas A&M men’s golf team built an eight-stroke lead after the first two rounds of the Louisiana Classics on March 9. The Aggies posted scores of 10-under-par 278 and 13-under-par 275 at Oakbourne Country Club, bringing their total to 23-under-par 553. Little Rock is in second place at 15-under, followed by Michigan, Lamar, and East Tennessee State.
This performance puts Texas A&M in a strong position as they aim for their fourth Louisiana Classics title in five seasons. Shiv Parmar and Aaron Pounds are tied with five other golfers for seventh place individually at six-under-par 138. Parmar, competing as an individual, shot consecutive rounds of three-under-par 69 with multiple birdies each round. Pounds recorded a bogey-free four-under-par 68 in his second round.
Alex Long and Jaime Montojo are tied for fourteenth place at five-under-par 139 after identical rounds of 70 and 69. Wheaton Ennis sits in twenty-third place at three-under-par, while Kris Kuvaas is thirtieth at one-under-par.
Head Coach Brian Kortan said about the team’s performance: “We really did a good job on the par-4s today. That allowed us to string together a good number of birdies. It was a good day and they scored well. Any time you a bunch of scores in the 60s it’s a good thing. So they did enough good things well to put good scores on the board.” On preparing for the final round, Kortan added: “Our message rarely wavers. We want to do us. We want to do the things we do well. There are a few things they need to clean up – a few things we weren’t really happy with today. Going into any round one of our goals is always to have the low score, so that won’t change tomorrow. I’m looking forward to it.”
The Aggies will tee off Tuesday morning paired with Little Rock and Michigan as they look to secure another tournament victory.
