The Texas A&M men’s golf team secured their third tournament trophy of the season with a victory at the Louisiana Classics, according to a March 10 announcement. The Aggies finished with a final round score of 1-under 287 at Oakbourne Country Club, holding off Michigan, Little Rock, and Middle Tennessee.
This win marks Texas A&M’s fourth Louisiana Classics title in the last five seasons. The team completed the event at 24-under-par 840, finishing seven strokes ahead of Little Rock. Middle Tennessee, East Tennessee State, and Michigan rounded out the top five among sixteen teams.
Jaime Montojo led Texas A&M individually by tying for eighth place with a total score of 6-under-par 210. Kris Kuvaas posted the team’s best final round score with a 3-under-par 69 and finished tied for fifteenth alongside Shiv Parmer and Aaron Pounds. Alex Long followed closely in nineteenth place.
Head Coach Brian Kortan said about his team’s performance: “It takes the entire team for us to have a great week. We’ve got good players, but we have to play five guys, and they need to be in those five rounds of golf and that’s what this week was, a really great team effort to come out on top is always great. It was good to see good golf out of a lot of different guys.” Kortan also praised Montojo’s consistent play: “Jaime had a really great week. He has played solidly all spring which is great to see. He hung in there and played a nice round today, it was good to see him play well.” On winning another trophy he added: “Whenever you leave town, you want to play well enough to have the chance to win. It’s always great to win a tournament. It’s not easy to do especially on the back end of a busy stretch. So, to see them in there and bring home a win it’s awesome to see.”
Texas A&M has now collected three trophies this season including victories at the 2nd Swing Gopher Invitational and Steelwood Collegiate Invitational.
Looking ahead, Texas A&M will compete next at the Valspar Collegiate Invitational at Floridian National Golf Club in Palm City, Florida from March 23-24.
