The Texas A&M men’s tennis team ended its 2025-26 season on May 3 with a 4-2 defeat against Stanford in the second round of the NCAA Championships at the George P. Mitchell ’40 Tennis Center.
This result means Texas A&M finishes the year with a record of 20-10, while Stanford advances to face TCU in next Saturday’s Super Regional round. The match was marked by close competition and momentum shifts between both teams.
Aggies head coach Steve Denton said, “These NCAA tournament matches with everything on the line have razor-thin margins. We did a great job of stealing the doubles point and that put us in a good spot, but we weren’t able to close out a couple of first sets once we got to singles. That was ultimately the difference. We dropped some close first sets that were our undoing. They are a good team so once they got on top of us, they were even better and probably relaxed them a little bit more.”
Texas A&M started strong by winning the doubles point for an early lead, but Stanford responded by taking four first sets in singles play. Senior Togan Tokac won his final match as an Aggie at court five with a straight-set victory over Jagger Leach, giving Texas A&M its second point. However, Stanford secured four straight-set wins to clinch their place in the Sweet 16.
In doubles action, sophomore Alex Frusina hit a forehand winner down the line to help him and junior partner Kholo Montsi rally from behind and win their match at No. 2 doubles against Nico Godsick and Hudson Rivera (7-5). Earlier, Theo Papamalamis and Tokac—ranked No. 2 nationally—won their match at No.1 doubles (6-3) over Alex Razeghi and Alex Chang.
Denton added, “We fought hard… We had a lot of good matches this year and ultimately it comes down [to] a couple points here and there. I think Stanford was just a little better than us today. They were really good in a couple of spots and that was the difference.”
