The Texas A&M men’s tennis team, ranked No. 18, is set to play two away matches against nationally ranked opponents this weekend. The Aggies will first compete against No. 24 Florida at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex on Friday at 4 p.m., followed by a match against No. 13 South Carolina at the Carolina Tennis Center on Sunday at noon.
Currently holding a 9-5 overall record and a 2-2 mark in SEC play, Texas A&M aims to rebound after narrowly losing recent matches to Georgia and Vanderbilt, both ending with scores of 4-3. Freshman Markus Molder was the only Aggie player to secure points in both contests, improving his dual match record to 7-1.
Florida enters the match with a 7-6 overall record and stands at 1-3 in conference play. Last weekend, the Gators secured their first SEC win over Kentucky by a score of 4-3 but lost to South Carolina, 5-2. In last season’s meeting between Texas A&M and Florida at the Mitchell Tennis Center, Texas A&M swept Florida with a decisive 7-0 result. During that match, Theo Papamalamis, Tiago Pires and Togan Tokac each won their singles matches.
South Carolina holds a 10-2 overall record and is currently 3-1 in SEC action. The Gamecocks experienced their first conference loss last weekend against No. 4 Texas (4-2), then defeated Florida by a score of 5-2. In last year’s matchup between South Carolina and Texas A&M at the Mitchell Tennis Center, South Carolina came out on top with a final score of 4-2; Papamalamis and Tokac scored points for Texas A&M.
