The Texas A&M softball team, ranked No. 15, defeated Tarleton State 15-2 in a five-inning game held at Bobcat Softball Stadium in San Marcos on Friday afternoon. This victory marks the Aggies’ highest run total of the season and extends their all-time record against Tarleton State to 3-0.
Texas A&M (17-7) recorded six extra base hits, including three home runs. Mya Perez led the team with two hits in two at-bats, driving in three runs and hitting her 10th home run of the season. Other players contributing multiple RBIs included Tallen Edwards, Micaela Wark, Ariel Kowalewski, and KK Dement. Both Edwards and Kennedy Powell scored three runs each.
Senior pitcher Grace Sparks earned her second win of the season by pitching four innings, striking out three batters while allowing one run on one hit and one walk.
The Aggies started strong in the first inning by scoring three runs on free bases and two hits. The momentum continued into the second inning when Kelsey Mathis hit a home run to center field, followed by consecutive home runs from Edwards and Perez, increasing their lead to 9-0.
In the third inning, Perez doubled to right field to drive in two more runs. Wark added a two-RBI single before Paislie Allen grounded out to bring in another run for a 14-1 advantage.
Sophomore Larisa Perez achieved her first career RBI by grounding out to score Powell in the fourth inning. Taylor Brown made her debut pitching appearance for Texas A&M, recording a strikeout while allowing one run on one hit as she finished the game.
Kennedy Powell appeared in her 200th career game during this matchup. She went 2-for-4 with a double and three runs scored while extending her hitting streak to ten games. Powell also stole two bases during the game, maintaining her national lead with a streak of 37 consecutive stolen bases.
Freshman Piper White notched a double in her first collegiate at-bat during the fourth inning.
The Aggies have now hit multiple home runs in ten games this season and have homered at least once in nine straight games. They matched their season-high mark with four stolen bases during this contest.
Texas A&M will play again later Friday against Texas State at 4 p.m.
