The Texas A&M softball team, ranked No. 15 nationally, defeated Louisiana Tech 9-1 in a five-inning game at Davis Diamond on Wednesday night. The win improved Texas A&M’s record to 16-7 for the season.
Texas A&M broke open the game with a five-run third inning, sending nine batters to the plate. Micaela Wark hit her 10th home run of the season, a three-run shot that gave the Aggies a commanding lead. The game ended in the fifth inning due to the run rule after consecutive doubles and a single.
Frankie Vrazel led Texas A&M with three hits and two runs scored. Wark contributed three RBIs with her home run. Sydney Lessentine pitched her fourth complete game of the year, allowing four hits and one unearned run while striking out two batters.
Mya Perez put Texas A&M ahead early with her ninth home run of the season in the first inning. In the third, Kelsey Mathis walked and advanced on a wild pitch before scoring on Kennedy Powell’s sacrifice fly. Wark’s home run and an RBI single from KK Dement capped off the inning.
Louisiana Tech managed its only run in the fourth inning after taking advantage of a fielding error.
In the fifth inning, Ariel Kowalewski walked, followed by doubles from Mathis and Vrazel. Powell then singled to secure the walk-off victory for Texas A&M.
Texas A&M will next play at Bobcat Softball Stadium in San Marcos against Tarleton State on March 6 at 11 a.m., followed by Texas State at 4 p.m.
