The No. 15 Texas A&M softball team split its games at the San Marcos Showdown on Friday, falling to Texas State 3-1 after defeating Tarleton State with a 15-2 run-rule earlier in the day.

Texas A&M (17-8) took an early lead against Texas State (15-8) in the third inning when senior transfer Tallen Edwards hit a solo home run to right field. Texas State responded in the fourth with a two-RBI double and added another run in the fifth, putting the Aggies behind 3-1.

In the sixth inning, Micaela Wark walked and advanced to third base after a double by Ariel Kowalewski, but Texas A&M was unable to score as Texas State escaped with a fielder’s choice and a strikeout. The Aggies left nine runners on base and went 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position during the game.

Pitcher Sidne Peters took the loss for Texas A&M, pitching four innings, striking out six batters, and allowing three runs on five hits.

Texas A&M has now homered in ten consecutive games, marking their longest streak of home runs under head coach Trisha Ford. Both Mya Perez and Kennedy Powell extended their on-base streaks to 28 games by drawing walks in the first inning. Tallen Edwards hit home runs in both games of the day, her first time doing so consecutively since playing at Oklahoma State in 2023. The Aggie pitching staff allowed just one walk against Texas State, making it their eighth game this season issuing only one walk.

Following this result, Texas A&M’s record against Texas State stands at 73 wins and 13 losses overall, including a 23-10 mark when playing in San Marcos.

Next up for Texas A&M is the start of SEC play against LSU at Tiger Park from March 14 through March 16. Saturday’s first pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
