The Texas A&M track and field team will conclude its indoor season at the NCAA Championships, which will take place at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Arkansas on March 13-14.
This event marks the end of the indoor campaign for the Aggies. The team recently competed at the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Championships, where the men’s squad finished third with 66.2 points and the women’s team placed seventh with 51 points. During that meet, Texas A&M athletes earned three gold medals, three silver medals, four bronze medals, and set three school records.
Gold medal performances at the SEC Championships came from Morgan Davis in long jump, Blake Harris in heptathlon, and Peter Narumbe in the 800 meters. Silver medals were won by Machaeda Linton (long jump), Henry Zimmerman (weight throw), and Ja’Qualon Scott (60-meter hurdles). Bronze medalists included the women’s distance medley relay team, Aleksandr Solovev (pole vault), Camryn Dickson (200 meters), and Auhmad Robinson (200 meters).
Looking back to last year’s NCAA Indoor Championships, Texas A&M’s women finished seventh overall with 27 points while the men placed tenth with 20 points. Returning point scorers include Jaiya Covington—last year’s NCAA champion in the 60-meter hurdles—Sofia Yakushina, who was national runner-up in pentathlon, Camryn Dickson on the women’s side; and for the men: Auhmad Robinson (third place in 400 meters), Aleksandr Solovev (fourth place pole vault), and Ja’Qualon Scott (seventh place in 60-meter hurdles).
For this year’s championships, Texas A&M is sending a total of sixteen athletes: nine men competing across five track events and four field events; six women entered into two track events and four field events. The NCAA Championship fields are comprised of top-16 individual performers nationally per event as well as top-12 ranked relays.
