The Texas A&M women’s golf team was in second place after 36 holes at the GameAbove Invitational on March 9, led by Cayetana Fernández García-Poggio, who was tied for third individually.

The tournament, hosted by the University of Southern California, saw Texas A&M trailing USC by 14 shots. The Aggies finished the day ahead of Oregon, Eastern Michigan, and SMU to round out the top five teams. Texas A&M also held a significant lead over UCLA.

Head Coach Gerrod Chadwell said, “A lot of good things happened today. It takes a lot of local knowledge to get around this golf course. I thought we did a good job of using slope to get balls close to the holes. We had some speed control issues on the greens, but we did a lot of great stuff. I am excited that we have a chance tomorrow. Anything can happen in team golf. The way that course was playing in the afternoon, was the way that the national championship feels like in San Diego. This is a great experience for us.”

Fernández García-Poggio shot a 1-over-par 73 in her first round and followed with a 4-under-par 68 for a total score of three under par through two rounds. Brynn Kort and Sky Sudberry were both tied for ninth place at one over par heading into Tuesday’s final round, while Natalie Yen shared thirteenth place at two over par and Vanessa Borovilos was tied for twenty-sixth.

The Aggies are scheduled to return to play at 10:40 a.m. Tuesday for the final round of competition. The event will be live streamed on CGN’s YouTube channel and live statistics will be available online.
