The Texas A&M women’s tennis team, ranked eighth nationally, defeated Alabama 4-1 on Saturday at the Mitchell Tennis Center in Bryan-College Station. With this result, Texas A&M extended its home winning streak to 78 matches and secured its fifth consecutive victory over Alabama.

Singles matches started the event, with Ilinca Amariei of Texas A&M, ranked No. 60, securing the first point by defeating Klara Milicevic 6-4, 6-1. Lexington Reed followed with a win against Maria Andrienko (6-1, 6-2) on court three. Lucciana Perez, ranked No. 5 nationally, added another point for the Aggies after beating Kristina Paskauskas (No. 62) by a score of 6-0, 6-3.

Alabama scored its only point when Karla Bartel overcame Violeta Martinez (No. 86) in straight sets on court four. The match was clinched for Texas A&M when Daria Smetannikov defeated Addison Bowman on court five.

Head Coach Mark Weaver commented on his team’s performance: “Overall, we handled it very well. Anytime you can take care of two SEC matches, 4-0 and 4-1, you can’t ask for a whole lot more than that. They are playing at a very high level; the Aggies are playing some good tennis.”

Texas A&M will next host Georgia at the Mitchell Tennis Center on Thursday at 5 p.m.
