Michael McCaul, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Texas' 10th district since 2005, recently shared updates on social media regarding significant initiatives and commemorations. McCaul, who has been active in politics for two decades, highlighted efforts to honor both international figures and local heroes.
On June 16, 2025, McCaul announced his collaboration with Representative Jim McGovern in introducing a resolution to designate July 6th, 2025 as "A Day of Compassion." This day is intended to honor His Holiness' 90th birthday and affirm the fundamental human rights of Tibetans. "I’m proud to introduce a resolution with @RepMcGovern designating July 6th, 2025, as 'A Day of Compassion' to honor His Holiness’ 90th birthday and affirm Tibetans’ fundamental human rights."
The following day, on June 17, McCaul paid tribute to Sergeant Major Billy D. Waugh by highlighting his exemplary service record. Waugh's career spanned roles as an Army paratrooper and special forces soldier, CIA officer, and even a period as a US postal worker. His bravery was recognized with eight Purple Hearts. "Sergeant Major Billy D. Waugh epitomized the American values of courage, patriotism, & self-sacrifice."
Later that same day in Bastrop, Texas—Waugh's hometown—McCaul participated in a ceremony renaming the local post office in Waugh's honor. This act serves as a lasting tribute to Waugh’s legacy and offers Texans an opportunity to remember his contributions. "Today we gathered in his hometown of Bastrop, Texas, to remember his life and rename our post office in his honor."
Michael McCaul was born in Dallas in 1962 and currently resides in Austin. He graduated from Trinity University with a BA before earning a JD from St. Mary's University.
