Charles Schwertner, a Republican who has represented Texas's 5th Senate district since 2013, posted several updates on legislative activities and disaster response in Texas on August 1, 2025.

In a post dated August 1, 2025, Schwertner reported on recent efforts by state lawmakers to address flooding: "Yesterday, the Texas Senate and House Select Committees on Disaster Preparedness and Flooding, alongside Lt. Governor @DanPatrick and Speaker @Burrows4TX, met in Kerrville to hear directly from those affected by the devastating flooding. Over the course of over 13 hours, we https://t.co/QfLKCNtgVh".

Later that morning, Schwertner highlighted legislative work aimed at combating property crime: "This morning, the Senate Committee on Business and Commerce is convening to consider SB 15, which addresses a key issue included on the special session agenda - strengthening protections against title theft and deed fraud. #txlege Tune in here: https://t.co/reBajbVmDi" (August 1, 2025).

In another post that afternoon, Schwertner announced progress on a bill targeting lobbying practices: "The Senate just passed a huge win for taxpayers by voting to ban taxpayer-funded lobbying! I'm proud to have joined Senator @mayes_middleton as a co-author on SB 12, which protects taxpayers from having their own dollars used to hire lobbyists who work against them. #txlege" (August 1, 2025).

Schwertner has served in the Texas State Senate since his election in 2013 after succeeding Steve Ogden.
